![]() As you turn your DPI up, the amount of movement on your mouse necessary to make the mouse report a change in position becomes less and less. This means that turning it up, as long as your sensor can handle it, doesn't result in any actual loss in precision-in fact, you gain precision. DPI is important because it is a hardware-level sensitivity setting. Assuming the computer's sensitivity is the same, this would mean you move the mouse cursor twice as far, or in a game, moved your crosshair twice as much. If your DPI is 1600 and you move your mouse 1 inch, the mouse will tell the computer you've moved the mouse 1600 dots. So, if your DPI is 800 and you move your mouse 1 inch, the mouse will tell the computer you've moved the mouse 800 dots. The DPI setting is how many of these "dots" the mouse sends per inch of actual, real-world movement. When you move your mouse, your mouse is actually sending your computer/operating system a message with a value of how many "dots" (an arbitrary unit) that the mouse has detected you've moved. So, what are these and what's the difference? Well, DPI is a measure of sensitivity built into your mouse, and it stands for Dots Per Inch. ![]() So, at a conceptual level, there are two things left that affect your sensitivity: You may have seen these mentioned in sensitivity videos, and while it's a good idea to have them set right/off, it won't actually affect Siege. Fortunately, since Siege uses Raw Input, a couple of variables are knocked off right off the bat-the Windows slider and "enhance pointer precision" option. There are several things that go into mouse sensitivity on a PC shooter. This is somewhat of a welcome change from many other communities where this is a constant topic, but I think it deserves a little bit of attention. It seems that there is very little advice given about the mechanics of aiming, and sensitivity here. However, in a match where two players' game/map knowledge is similar, the one with superior aim is going to come out on top, and sometimes superior aim can even let a less knowledgeable player come out on top. Even a console player with highly superior game knowledge/map knowledge would demolish the top Counter Strike aimer thrown into Siege for the first time. Of course, this is by far the most important piece of this game. ![]() It seems that much of the advice given in this community emphasizes game knowledge, map knowledge, and game sense. Hello! So, I'm fairly new to Siege, but I've played other FPS's a lot, and got very high ranked (Grandmaster, almost Top 500) in Overwatch, so I thought I'd try to give back a little bit of the knowledge I've gained there to this community.
